The Birth of Juliette

Hi Regina!

We had a water birth at Hackettstown Hospital. I think you would be proud of us with how well we did. We got to the hospital at midnight. Things moved along so quickly that Martha, the midwife, almost didn't make it in time for the birthing. I was in the tub when my water broke and the nurses made me get out and back on the bed. But I was able to get back in the tub when the midwife arrived. She recommended to be on my hands and knees, then I turned over once Juliette's head was out and the rest of her came quite easily. You were right, she looked right at me when I brought her to my chest. It was the most wonderful experience I've ever had. Martha said I had her in record time, only 1 1/2 hours of actual labor. Just what I wanted!

The breathing down of the baby was what I was able to apply the best during our labor. As for the pain management, I think I could have done better. Maybe next time I'll practice my visualizations more often. I kept thinking about the videos you showed us and thought about how calm and quiet those women were. Also, I think if I were able to stay in the tub, I could have relaxed more. The nurses were afraid of doing the delivery themselves in the water. I have to give them credit though, they stayed calm enough for me to keep my breathing under control. The J breath really does work!!!!

Thank you for your insights and instructions. I listened to my baby and we did wonderfully!

Take care,
Laura D'Eliseo
